Using OPERA after an upgrade to Windows 7 OS

Travis Macauley

When updating workstations to Windows 7 Operating System (OS), some minor updates are required for the OPERA application to deploy and display correctly;

(Solution 70443 - OPERA/Forms do not correctly refresh when using Windows 7 workstation)

1. Close out of Internet Explorer and make sure the Java Console icon (the one that looks like a coffee cup) isn't in the system tray at the bottom right corner of the screen (see screenshot below).

2. Click on the 'Start' menu, then open 'Control Panel' and double click the 'JInitiator 1.3.X.X’ icon (see screenshot below).

3. In the Java Runtime Parameters, enter the following option (see screenshot and notes below)

 -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true

Notes:

  • Letter casing is important (i.e. capital ‘D’ lower case ‘s’ etc.)
  • The JInitiator Control Panel will have the same screen refresh problem as OPERA was having, so you will need to minimise, then restore the window to see what you typed in
  • If there is already a -D option in there, leave a space before adding the new one

4. Click on 'Apply' and then click on 'x' in the top right corner to exit out of the JInitiator Control Panel.

5. Reconnect to OPERA.

NOTE - Multiple users:

If multiple users will be logging in to the workstation, the changes will have to be applied for each user:

Copy the Jinit folder content, located on C:\users\[USERNAME]\Jinit to all the other users folders of the workstation.

This should apply the Java runtime parameters to the different users:
